Live Blood Analysis NZ — See Your Blood in Real Time
At Brilin Functional Medicine Centre, Live Blood Analysis allows you to view a tiny drop of your fresh blood under darkfield microscopy while we explain what is visible on screen. Many people find the experience fascinating — it provides a real-time visual look at red blood cells, some white blood cells, platelets and other features within a fresh blood sample. At Brilin, Live Blood Analysis is used as an observational and educational wellness tool rather than a medical diagnostic test.

Example Live Blood Images — fresh blood samples viewed under darkfield microscopy at Brilin. Differences in appearance can be influenced by biological factors as well as sample collection, preparation, slide position, coverslip pressure, drying and time after collection. These images are provided for educational purposes and are not diagnostic.
What is Live Blood Analysis?
A Real-Time Look at Your Fresh Blood
A small drop of blood is taken from your fingertip and viewed immediately under a dark-field microscope. The image is projected onto a monitor so both you and your practitioner can observe your blood together in real time — no lab, no waiting, no staining.

During a session we may observe:
These are visual observations and do not establish the cause of an appearance or diagnose a medical condition. Live Blood Analysis is used as an observational and educational wellness tool, alongside your symptoms, history and other available information.
Why People Choose It
Why People Choose Live Blood Analysis
People choose Live Blood Analysis for all sorts of reasons — mostly because it is a genuinely interesting way to see your own blood on screen and learn about what is visible.
Live Blood Analysis does not determine the cause of symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, digestive problems or inflammation. Where appropriate, conventional medical testing may be recommended to investigate these concerns.
The Technology
What is Dark Field Microscopy?
Dark field microscopy (also written as darkfield microscopy) is a specialised illumination technique that allows practitioners to observe live blood cells without staining or killing them. Unlike conventional laboratory microscopy, dark field microscopy blood analysis illuminates specimens against a dark background — making cellular detail, movement and morphology clearly visible.
The blood is magnified up to 1,000 times and the image is transmitted via video directly to a monitor, allowing both practitioner and client to observe the blood together in real time.
Finger-Prick Sample
A sterile lancet is used to take a small drop of blood from your fingertip. Quick, simple and minimally invasive — takes just a moment.
Dark Field Microscopy
The blood is placed on a glass slide and immediately viewed under the dark field microscope — magnified up to 1,000 times. No staining, no drying, no lab wait.
Live On-Screen Viewing
The image is projected onto a monitor so you can watch your own blood in real time while your practitioner explains what they observe. Most clients find this fascinating.
Booking Options
Can I Book Live Blood Analysis By Itself?
Yes — Live Blood Analysis can absolutely be booked as a standalone session.
However, over many years of clinical experience, we have found it is often far more powerful when combined with other forms of assessment. Live Blood Analysis gives a visual look at the blood itself, but it does not always explain why certain patterns may be occurring.
That is why many clients choose to combine it with one or both of the following:
Bioenergetic Scan (Asyra)
Our Bio-Energetic Screening may help identify stress patterns within different body systems — including possible nutritional, immune, digestive, lymphatic or energetic imbalances. This can help provide additional context alongside what we observe in the blood.

OligoScan provides a different type of assessment relating to minerals and trace elements. It does not validate or confirm findings seen during Live Blood Analysis, but the two assessments may be discussed alongside your symptoms, health history and other available information.

What Live Blood Analysis Is — and Is Not
Live Blood Analysis is an observational and educational wellness tool. It is not a medical diagnostic test and cannot diagnose or exclude disease, infection, nutritional deficiency or another medical condition. It does not replace your GP, specialist, conventional laboratory testing, imaging or other appropriate medical assessment.
Watch
Educational demonstration of Live Blood Analysis
An educational demonstration showing how fresh blood samples can appear different at different times. Changes between samples cannot by themselves establish a treatment effect, because fresh blood microscopy can also be affected by collection technique, timing, slide preparation, drying, coverslip pressure and sampling location.
